Hong Kong Government to be passed on as a grant; the loan being interest-free, with terms of repayment to be settled at a later date. Another suggestion was that H.M.G. might offer to contribute on a £ for £ basis, with voluntary subscriptions up to a total of £250,000 for both. At
Mr. Pitblado's suggestion, I have now written him a letter (flimsy attached) making the request for a grant of £250,000 from U.K. funds. It was agreed that I should not refer to the suggestions which had been made in the course of our discussion.
I will explain the position to Dr. Sloss when I see him next week and report further developments.
